Robert G. Schmidt : Un Etude par François Boitel

A new biography in French, English and Japanese is sold at Galerie Saint-Roch.

Born in Paris, Robert G. Schmidt studied at the Julian’s Academy of Fine Arts.  This colorist attracts by an original atmosphere of dreaming and cheerfulness.

At first glance one is attracted by the strength of his colours, the vigour of his drawing. Robert G. Schmidt is interested in all reality, the objects around him in his studio, the animation of a port, but he does not particularly seek to order them, nor to make the colours real.

His eyes are struck by a world of reflections, of shapes that combine to compose a symphony of colours that are both fluid and intense. Sometimes ranges of blues, ranges of reds illuminate the whole canvas.

Olivier Messiaen said of his painting that it is also music.

He is member of all parisian Art Galleries and was President of « Comparaisons » from 1996 to 2002. He was appointed Officer in the Order of Arts and Letters and Chevalier in the National Order of Merit.

His favorite subjects: landscapes with small Valley of the Loire village squares and their bell towers, Paris animated neighborhoods characters blending into the scenery, Mediterranean and Breton villages with wetting boats in the bay.

Still life also appear in the work of Robert G. Schmidt. These are moments of everyday life in live, the end of a lunch, for example, a fruit bowl, a violin with a beach background where we find a a halo of light in the center of the canvas.

The very sophisticated designs of Robert G. Schmidt in pencil are essential to the implementation of the various elements on the canvas. From them, he creates his large colorful compositions in his studio.

For many years now, Robert G. Schmidt has been one of the most outstanding painters of his generation.
